I think part of the problem is the age-old one of generalising. We should deal with each news item as it stands without trying to read too much into it and make 2 + 2 = 5.
We should quarantine each snippet and keep it in isolation.
The news from Mushigame and Yamogihara isn't contradictory if you keep it that way. These two villages are on the sides of the same mountain. You can drive from one to the other in about 25 minutes.
But there the similarity stops. Mushigame is a small village, 120+ houses with an aged population. They closed the school a couple of years ago as there weren't enough kids to keep it viable.
Yamogihara is bigger and is thriving. The first time I visited there was a Koi show on the forecourt of a car showroom.
Yamogihara is expecting the electricity to be reconnected in the next couple of days.
Mushigame has been evacuated and will now be low on the list.
Even in Yamogihara its a case of different strokes for different folks. Oomo, has been lucky, Nogami, hasn't. They are not that far apart.
Let's just keep it factual and deal with each piece of news as it comes and avoid speculation. It's bad enough without making it worse.
